New York’s Staten Island. Shovel out the cupboard and adjust the car’s shocks. This is the time of year when consumers stock up on a wide range of canned products, among other items, due to the Can Can sale.
The actual sale will begin at midnight on Sunday, January 5.Digital coupons can be clipped now to beat the competition, but they can only be used online once the sale starts.
This Week’s Headline Soups, tuna fish, tomato sauce, vegetables, and other shelf-stable items like coffee and oil are among the three-week winter events. Despite the can motif, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, iced tea, and water varieties are also sold mostly in plastic bottles.
Typically, each customer may only purchase a maximum of four pieces of each product kind.
The contest, which is ongoing for the majority of January, has been dubbed the greatest sale in the world by ShopRite’s circular criteria. Customers can anticipate a few discounts during the first phase of the Can Can Bash through Saturday, January 11.
Since 1971, the ShopRite Can Can tradition has been celebrated annually or every two years. According to the Mannix family owners, the Can Can promotion made some of the slowest weeks of the year into the busiest.
The supermarket business used dancing vaudeville ladies in their first advertising campaign. From zucchini to apple sauce, it’s a can-do shopping spree, according to the original commercial’s catchy lyrics! The animation adopted a disco theme in the early 1980s. “From can to can to can, you’ll save much more on every brand” was a slightly altered version of the catchy song from that era.
The plan was to design a distinctive advertising and merchandising event that appealed to consumers, according to a ShopRite representative. The campaign’s catchy Moulin Rouge-inspired song served as a reminder to consumers to buy the majority of the private label canned fruits, veggies, tuna, and beverages that were on sale.
In the end, the ShopRite deal survived a canned goods crisis that hit the industry in 1974. In the end, store owners went beyond canned items and even into national brands. In 2002, a Summer Can Can event was added.
Store employees were unable to confirm whether another can-centric event will take place this year.
