Singer Nini Iris’ journey from the Colonnade Diner to ‘The Voice’

New York’s Staten Island. Nini Iris is a new voice in the music industry thanks to her powerful vocals and creative songwriting.

Iris was born and reared in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she was surrounded by traditional Georgian folk music.

Even though Iris didn’t think she could pursue music as a career at first, her passion for it only deepened, and she was motivated to try out for X Factor Georgia and The Voice, where she finished as a Top 3 finalist.

My friends persuaded me to try out for The Voice in Georgia when I was sixteen, and I was accepted. “They saw something in me, even though I wasn’t that great,” Iris remarked. I had the opportunity to meet a variety of musicians, and after being greatly inspired by them, I decided it was what I wanted to pursue with my life.

Iris made the decision to go to New York by herself in 2016 in order to further her musical career. Although she now lives in Brooklyn, she briefly lived in Staten Island and worked intermittently as a waitress at the Colonnade Diner on Hyland Boulevard for four years.

Even if it was unpleasant at the time, I believe that everything I have done in my life has been beneficial to me, Iris stated. I was able to learn English and the culture while working as a waitress at the Colonnade Diner. My strong accent made me feel self-conscious, and my English wasn’t that good. It improved eventually, and to be honest, the diner gave me excellent people skills.

Iris kept up her musical career while working as a waitress, trying out for musical contests like NBC’s The Voice year after year. She performed on their platform last year, opting to be on Musician Niall Horan’s steam and reaching the Top 9.

Iris couldn’t help but learn from and be inspired by the people and surroundings around her during this six-month trip. Learning to be adaptable in her writing while being loyal to herself was one lesson she learned.

During my time on The Voice, I discovered a lot of new aspects of myself that I was unaware of. I had no idea I could write so widely. I was aware of my musical abilities. Iris said, “I’ve been doing it since I was eighteen, but I realized the sky is the limit.”

The singer is pursuing her passion after The Voice by applying her knowledge and experience. Iris continued to play modest performances after becoming a citizen, and she even had the privilege of singing the National Anthem at the first home game of the New York Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew MLS Playoff game and the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lions game.

However, she played the lead in her first solo theater performance at the Williams Center in New Jersey on November 15.

It was the greatest thing ever. According to Iris, this was the first official Nini Iris Tour, and it was frightening. It’s frightening when people truly come up to your concert and start singing your own songs. It was terrifying, but it ended up being amazing. I got everything I wanted.

Iris is only beginning to show off her skills to the world; she is far from finished. Even though she hasn’t put out many songs, she is prepared to solicit ideas for new ones and is getting ready for her upcoming solo performance in Massachusetts on December 19 as part of her The Beginning Tour.

Iris’s goals include performing in Staten Island again and possibly winning a few Grammys, but she also hopes to buy a farm with cows and poultry someday.

The Coldplay song, “If you never try, you’ll never know,” embodies the singer’s unwavering resolve, ambition, and fearlessness in pursuing her goals.
