John Bergin Jr. was just 9 years old on September 11, 2001, when his father, John P. Bergin, a member of the FDNY’s Rescue 5 in Concord, lost his life while serving the people of New York City.
Despite the devastating loss, Bergin Jr. persisted and became a firefighter, much like his father. He was among a number of Staten Islanders who received promotions at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex’s Fire Officers Promotion Ceremony on Tuesday morning.
