Source: Woman, 92, allegedly not in crosswalk when hit by car on Staten Island; critically hurt

New York’s Staten Island. According to a person familiar with the inquiry, a 92-year-old woman was hit by a car on Wednesday night while she was crossing the street in the middle of the block on busy Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp.

After being taken by emergency medical services to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, the woman was still in serious condition on Thursday morning, according to a representative for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

According to authorities, the collision occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the 2600 block of Hylan Boulevard between Lindbergh and Allison avenues.

About 77 feet south of Lindbergh Avenue, the woman was not in or close to a crosswalk at the time of the collision, the source informed the Advance/SILive.com. Hylan and Allison were at the closest lit crossing.

According to a preliminary investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad, the pedestrian was struck by a 2017 Honda Pilot driven by a 49-year-old male who was heading on Hylan Boulevard toward Oakwood.

The police spokesperson stated on Thursday morning that no charges have been brought in connection with the collision and that the investigation is still ongoing.

2nd Hylan death in month

In just over a month, the collision is the second time a person has died while crossing Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp.

Justine Perez, 37, of New Springville, was killed by a car on October 30 near Hylan and New Dorp Lane, a few blocks away.

According to the NYPD, Perez was walking against traffic while in the left lane of Hylan Boulevard, which was headed toward Tottenville, according to an investigation conducted by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.

Police say she was hit by a 2012 Nissan Maxima that was in the left lane and heading toward Tottenville.

According to the NYPD, the driver of the car, an 18-year-old guy, stayed on the scene.
