On Sunday, Wagner College welcomed a number of its Hall of Famers in every sport. However, Fairleigh Dickinson marred the celebration by defeating the Seahawks 71-59 in the Northeast Conference and scoring 28 points from Terrence Brown.
Brown finished the Knights (5-11, 1-0 NEC) with 10 rebounds. Bismark Nsiah contributed 12 rebounds, nine assists, and 11 points while shooting 4 of 8 and 3 of 8 from the free-throw line. Cameron Tweedy scored nine points on four of seven shots from the field.
The Seahawks (8-7, 0-2) were led by 20 points and two steals by Zae Blake. Wagner received 18 points and two steals from Zaire Williams. In addition, Zavier Fitch had two blocks and nine points.
After losing to Chicago State on Friday night, Wagner is now 0–2 in the NEC. In the program’s first NEC game, Chicago triumphed, snapping a 15-game losing record to start the season.
On Friday, Wagner travels to Central Connecticut State.
Men in CSI
Del. Wilmington. The Dolphins defeated host Wilmington 99-75 in a non-conference game on Saturday, enjoying one of those scorching, can’t-seem-to-miss shooting days. CSI’s overall score is 3-11.
CSI shot over 54% during the game and kept the Wildcats to less than 38% from the field. The Dolphins were led by Messiah Mallory with 26 points, followed by Aaron Goldstein with 19. Together, they made 10 of the game’s 17 CSI 3-pointers, with Justin Zieris adding three more.
On Wednesday, Mercy will host CSI’s return to ECC play.
Women in CSI
Caldwell, New Jersey. After a poor start and falling behind by as many as eighteen points, the Dolphins recovered but lost the non-conference game. Overall, CSI is 8–6.
With 19 points, Jenalyse Alarcon led the Dolphins, scoring primarily from the free-throw line (9 for 11). With 16 points apiece, Alexa Quirolo and Dana Phelan made six 3-pointers together.
On Wednesday, the Dolphins go to Mercy to play in the ECC.
WAGNER WOMEN
Fairleigh Dickinson, the preseason favorite to win the NEC women’s championship, appeared like the clear favorite on Saturday as she thrashed the Seahawks. HACKENSACK, N.J.
After one quarter, FDU was ahead 24-7 (11-3 overall, 1-0 NEC). The Knights scored 58% from the field in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 31 points, while Wagner came as close as seven points after halftime.
With 17 points (5 of 9 from three) and seven rebounds, Julia Fabozzi led the Seahawks. Hawa Blade-Camara, a junior, ended with six points and tied a career-high five blocks, while sophomore Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor finished with eight points and five rebounds.
