Staten Island council minority leader proposes bill for emergency shelter transparency

New York’s Staten Island. The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) would have to alert community leaders prior to extending contracts at an emergency shelter under new city legislation.

The proposal was presented on January 23 by Council Minority Leader David Carr (R-Mid-Island/South Brooklyn), who stated on Thursday that he was motivated by the difficulties faced by Travis residents in the last two years with three migrant shelters.
