STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—After Republicans elected Councilman David Carr (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) as their leader on Tuesday, Staten Island will maintain its hold on the minority of the New York City Council.
With the councilman and two other members of the six Council Republicans—Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-Brooklyn) and Councilman Joseph Borelli (R-South Shore)—supporting his leadership campaign, Carr’s victory was virtually guaranteed due to his senior position.
