Editor’s Note: We are recognizing some of the exceptional individuals who have demonstrated the best of Staten Island this year and naming them as Staten Island’s Brightest Lights of 2024 in recognition of the many Staten Islanders who have done so.
They deserve congratulations, as do all the residents of the borough who have discovered ways to support, advocate for, inspire, alter the world, and/or care about their neighborhood in 2024.
2024’s Top Attractions on Staten Island: Kamora Freeland
In summary, her story:
Kamora Freeland is accustomed to accomplishing remarkable feats. She started college a year early and skipped a grade, despite being an honors student.
The Mariners Harbor youngster underwent the most difficult exam of her life on Monday, February 26 at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island, as part of the requirements to obtain her private pilot’s license. And she was able to pass!
Freeland’s achievement made her the youngest African-American woman pilot to obtain a private license.
Freeman stated that she was initially drawn to flying because of the sights, adding, “I love flying and I have a passion for it.” I was also intrigued by the fact that pilots can earn up to $700,000. Becoming a pilot for a commercial airline is the next step.
