Subaru recalls thousands of this popular SUV model over defective wheels

New York’s Staten Island — One of Subaru of America’s best-selling SUV models is the subject of a safety recall.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the business is now recalling over 20,000 of its Forester compact SUV models because of problems with specific wheel mountings that may cause a loss of wheel stability.

All 20,366 of the Foresters included in the recall belong to the 2025 model year. Specifically, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels are used in the production of these SUVs.

The primary reason for the recall is incorrect lug nut seating, which may result in an incorrectly mounted wheel. According to the recall notice, this can result in a loss of wheel stability while driving and raise the chance of an accident.

Subaru will get in touch with the owners of impacted vehicles and instruct them to take their cars to a dealership so that the problem may be fixed.

According to Subaru’s documentation submitted to the NHTSA, the dealers will examine the car’s wheels and replace any that are discovered to have this problem.

According to the recall filing, Subaru will also pay back any owners who have already covered the cost of repairs out of pocket.

To find out if their 2025 Subaru Forester is impacted by the recall, owners can call Subaru customer support at 1-844-373-6614 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Starting in March, owners of impacted vehicles will get notification letters from the automaker.
