STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. On Saturday, December 7, Sundog Theatre will perform A Christmas Carol, a story of redemption and enchantment, at the Staten Island Playhouse at the Empire Outlets in St. George. The play will feature Scrooge, the three Ghosts of Christmas, Tiny Tim, and numerous other Dickens characters.
It has been a beloved holiday tale since Charles Dickens originally recounted it in the middle of the 1800s.
A Christmas Carol also examines topics of materialism and humanity under the pretense of a ghost story. The 70-minute musical is part of Sundog’s regional tour, which is stopping in New York City, New Jersey, and Maryland. Following the performance, there will be a Q&A session with the cast and audience.
Dickens intended to highlight the predicament of the impoverished in England when he published his novella in 1843 as a social critique.
Additionally, Sundog’s performance remains faithful to the original tale in its musical adaptation, which was written by Susan Mondzak and adapted for the stage by Cash Tilton.
Adults in the audience will not miss the parallels between Victorian England and modern-day America. Six skilled actors bring the well-developed characters from the novel to the stage.
To make the musical suitable for the whole family, a youngster is selected from the crowd to play Tiny Tim or Tiny Tina during each performance.
Susan Fenley is the producer, Victoria Colella is the co-producer, Shannon Agnew is the director, and Michael Ancona is the musical director of A Christmas Carol.
Michael Green, a native of Staten Island, plays Scrooge in the production. Kent Benwell, Cody Hodgins, Ryan Lynch, Natalie Martzial, and Sammy Quinn, a graduate of Wagner College, are also featured.
On Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m., the play will make its one-day appearance at the Staten Island Playhouse at Empire Outlets, which is situated at 55 Richmond Terr, Level 3.
The cost of each ticket is $15. For information and tickets, visit SundogTheatre.org or call 718-816-5453.
Early in the evening on the same day, the Empire Outlets tree is lit.
On Staten Island, Sundog Theatre is a resident performing arts group that creates both adult and kid-friendly entertainment.
In addition, the theater offers acting lessons, professional touring shows, and arts education initiatives.
