Thanksgiving Day 2024: What’s open, closed in NYC

New York’s Staten Island. Thursday, November 28, is Thanksgiving Day. Additionally, schools, government offices, and services will close in observance of the holiday, even if some pharmacies and grocery stores will remain open.

Many grocery stores will be open on Thursday if you need last-minute ingredients for your holiday feast or would rather pick up a prepared meal.There aren’t many options for people who want to complete their holiday shopping on Thanksgiving because many stores have extended hours on Black Friday.

As we get together to celebrate and express gratitude for our abundance with family and friends, here is a look at the holiday closures and modified schedules in effect:

CleanlinessNo recycling, no waste collection, and no street cleaning. Items should be placed outside Thursday evening for pickup starting Friday, Nov. 29 if the resident’s trash or compost collection day is Thursday.

For pickup on Thursday, December 5, residents who typically receive Thursday recycling collection should hang onto their materials and bring them curbside on Wednesday, December 4.

Ferry Weekend timetable for Staten Island. Throughout the day, service will be offered every 30 minutes. At midnight, the regular schedule will resume.
