New York’s Staten Island — The Container Store has announced that it would shortly close its sole outlet on Staten Island. Customers still have around two weeks to buy the store’s remaining inventory.
As stated in the signs outside the New Springville store, we will be permanently closing this location on February 16. The same incredible products, such as personalized spaces, are available at containerstore.com or at any of our nine other store locations in New York and New Jersey.
An email from a company representative confirmed the story, but explained that the closure is referred to as a “normal course closure” and is not a part of the Chapter 11 procedure the company finished on January 28. When or whether a clearing or liquidation sale would start was not made clear by the representative.
In December, the Texas-based company, which has over 100 locations nationwide, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, stating in a news release that it needed to refinance its debt in order to strengthen its financial position, support expansion plans, and promote increased long-term profitability.
According to reports, the retailer of organizing and storage products has suffered a drop in sales during a challenging housing market characterized by high prices and rising mortgage rates. In a recent financial report, officials cautioned that there is serious uncertainty regarding the company’s viability given the difficult retail climate, which was characterized by a decline in consumer spending in the store and organization sector as well as an increase in price sensitivity.
In 2017, the Staten Island Mall’s Container Store opened in the location that had previously been the Sears car garage. It was the sixth Container Store to open in New York and the 90th in the United States.
More than 300 food storage options, 750 organized office supplies, 70 varieties of laundry hampers, 400 travel organizer solutions, and 200 hanger sizes and colors were available at The Container Store at the Mall when it first opened.
It included 11,000 multipurpose goods designed to address every organizational problem, from the most little to the most daunting.
The Container Store, which was established in 1978, is the most recent national retailer to leave the borough. Last December, Party City, which also had borough locations, declared that it was closing all of its stores for Good and Macy’s Furniture Gallery. More recently, the company said it would soon close its New Springville location.
