These NYC employees are set to receive a big pay raise

New York’s Staten Island — A new contract will shortly result in salary increases for hundreds of workers in New York City.

About 500 city employees, including doctors and medical examiners in the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), as well as employees of NYC Health + Hospitals and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, will receive raises under a tentative five-year contract agreement announced by Mayor Eric Adams on Monday with the Doctors Council Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

“With this agreement, we are making sure that our doctors and medical examiners receive the fair compensation they deserve. They are the unsung heroes of our city, giving New Yorkers the care they need and the answers they deserve in their most trying times,” Adams said. In order to protect public health and deliver high-quality care to New Yorkers, this agreement will also assist OCME and our public hospitals in hiring and retaining talent.

Compounded wage increases of 3% for the first four years and a further 3.25% increase scheduled for June 28, 2025 are part of the retroactive contract, which has a start date of June 28, 2021, and an expiration date of December 27, 2026.

Along with the pay increases, the contract also provides an increase to the City Medical Examiner Teaching Differential up to $20,876 and a $3,000 lump sum ratification incentive for all covered personnel currently on the payroll.

According to Office of Labor Relations Commissioner Renee Campion, “I am pleased to have reached an agreement that provides fair and reasonable wage increases for the physicians who serve our most vulnerable city residents.” I want to express my gratitude to Executive Director Trevor Bolden and Doctors Council President Frances Quee for working together to make this deal possible.
