These recalled cucumbers pose a severe health risk, according to FDA

For the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a prepared cucumber recall was deemed the greatest potential health risk.

Last month, First Quality Produce recalled packages of chopped, sliced, or speared cucumbers due to a potential salmonella infection.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can infect young infants, the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and others, causing serious and occasionally fatal infections.

These products were involved:

  • Cucumber Coins (sliced cucumbers)

under the brand name Snack Buddies, which were packed in various sizes: 1.25-ounce, 2-ounce, 2.16-ounce, 2.25-ounce, 2.6-ounce, 3-ounce and 4-ounce.

  • Cucumber Coins

in 5-pound plastic trays under the First Quality Produce brand.

  • Cucumber Spear

s in 5-pound plastic trays under the First Quality Produce brand.

  • Cucumber Diced

in 5-pound plastic trays under the First Quality Produce brand.

The FDA has now determined that these cucumbers pose a serious risk to consumers’ health.

These products were designated as a Class I recall by the agency, which indicates that there is a plausible chance that using or being exposed to a product that violates the law may result in death or major negative health effects.

The recall is still in effect. If a consumer experiences an unpleasant reaction, they can notify the FDA.
