Tragic Case: Mother Charged with Murder in Beating Death of 6-Year-Old Daughter

In a heartbreaking incident, a 23-year-old mother from the Bronx has been accused of murder in connection with the brutal beating death of her 6-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on May 26, 2023, inside their apartment at NYCHA’s Forest Houses, according to authorities.

The mother, Lynija Eason-Kumar, initially claimed to police that she found her daughter, Jalayah Eason, cold and unresponsive inside a closet in their apartment on East 165th Street. She stated that she attempted CPR, but Jalayah did not regain consciousness.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived shortly after and rushed Jalayah to Lincoln Medical Center, but tragically, she could not be saved. The young girl succumbed to asphyxia and blunt force injuries, confirmed by police.

Neighbors reported hearing Jalayah scream for her life during the early-morning beating, indicating a disturbing and violent altercation. Police sources revealed that there had been previous reports of domestic violence at the family’s residence.
