U.S. Postal Service to raise prices this month for these services

This month, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is increasing the cost of several shipping services.

USPS notified the Postal Regulatory Commission in November of changes to shipping service prices. On Sunday, January 19, those modifications are scheduled to go into effect.

Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express services will see price increases of about 3.2%, USPS Ground Advantage by 3.9%, and Parcel Select by 9.2% as a result of the revisions.

Shipping service prices are mostly influenced by market factors, whereas mailing service price hikes are determined by the consumer price index.

According to the USPS governors, these new tariffs will maintain the Postal Service’s competitiveness while bringing in the necessary funds.

Other market-dominant products, including first-class mail, will not see price increases this month despite the increase in shipping services. Additionally, it indicates that this month’s price rise for a Forever stamp will not apply to the mailing of a 1-ounce, single-piece first-class letter.

Any suggested increases will not be implemented by USPS until at least July.

In July, the Postal Service increased the cost of Forever stamps from 68 cents to 73 cents.

Price adjustments will help the Postal Service become a reinvigorated company that can fulfill its public service purpose as a strategic component of the Delivering for America 10-year plan, USPS said.
