UPS, U.S. Postal Service package delivery change: What it will mean for P.O. Box users

Some individuals with post office boxes will experience changes as a result of UPS’s contract termination with the USPS.

Only UPS drivers are now able to deliver UPS Sure Post packages as a result of the shift, a representative for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters told Supply Chain Dive. The U.S. Postal Service used to do the last leg of these deliveries, but after the contract expires on January 1, UPS will take over.

This month, millions of parcels were transferred from SurePost and the USPS back to UPS package cars, where diligent UPS Teamsters are currently sorting and delivering them, the Teamsters stated in a Facebook post. For rank-and-file UPS Teamsters, the volume increase means more delivery possibilities and overtime.

Although Teamsters praised the modifications, some deliveries are affected. According to MyNBC5, the Postal Service is the sole carrier allowed to deliver to Navy fleets, Army bases, and post office boxes.UPS customers will now have to ship their packages straight to a U.S. site or their address as a result of the agreement’s termination.

UPS informed the station that sending shipments to a UPS shop is the best choice if a person does not have a working street address. Any package sent via UPS to a military address or P.O. Box will now be rejected and returned to the sender.
