Wagner College Opera presents ‘Something More,’ a concert featuring masterpieces from renowned composers

Something More, a riveting concert featuring opera scenes by well-known composers like Donizetti, Verdi, Mozart, Strauss, Bernstein, and Menotti, will be presented by Wagner College Opera in Staten Island, New York.

The concert will be held in Wagner College’s Main Stage Theatre on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are $20, while admittance is free for Wagner College employees, students, and professors. Only cash will be accepted at the Wagner College Theatre box office or at the door due to current restrictions. Wagner College Opera shows will be directly supported by all ticket sales.

According to Vincent Graa, director of opera at Wagner College, this performance is a special chance for our students to stretch their creative limits and venture beyond of their musical and artistic comfort zones. For me as a director, nothing is more fulfilling than seeing these young actors achieve feats they never would have imagined. They give these operatic classics a very exceptional vocal and dramatic intensity.

With characters motivated by needs for recognition, retribution, hope, and escape, Something More will examine a broad spectrum of emotional journeys.

Giovanni Longo, a collaborative pianist, will provide accompaniment for the production, which Graa will stage and musically oversee. Matthew Abatemarco, Victoria Acquavita, Selina Amargo, Tahlia Colon, and numerous other exceptional Wagner College students are part of the cast.

With special thanks to Vicki Neal and Phill Hickox, the production crew consists of lighting designer Sam Terrell, assistant director Tori Tarleton, producer Michelle Siemens, and assistant producer Selina Amargo.

The Main Stage Theatre at Wagner College, One Campus Road, will host the show. Visitors can park either the Stadium Parking Lot or the Tiers Lot Visitor Parking. Use 631 Howard Ave. to get GPS instructions to the Main Entrance.

Through both well-known and lesser-known operatic works, Wagner College Opera has established a reputation for giving students the chance to acquire critical abilities in musicianship, diction, stagecraft, and vocal performance.

As the program enters its fifth year under Gra’s direction, it continues to present a wide range of events, such as cabarets, intimate soirees, dramatic concerts, and full-length operas.
