STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. On Thursday afternoon, authorities were called to Westerleigh after a water main broke.
According to an FDNY/EMS spokesperson, the incident was reported at Victory and Westcott boulevards at 12:03 p.m.
After arriving on the scene, City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) workers promptly repaired the water main, according to an agency spokesperson.
The water combined with ice and slush from the storm that covered our town with several inches of snow on Sunday and Monday.
There were construction workers around.
According to a person on the scene, water blasted into the air for a while before being contained.
