West Brighton deli doesn’t make the holidays

New York’s Staten Island. Santino’s, an Italian-turned-Mexican grocery business at 409 Forest Avenue in West Brighton, has lights on but no one has been home.

Based on their views of the merchandise on shelves visible via the store’s lit windows, customers have mistakenly believed it to be open. However, doors have been locked and the firm has not been open since October 31.

For many years, the address has been a deli. Between 1999 and 2014, it operated around the clock. In the summer of 2015, it changed its name to D Vento, a salumeria. Originally an Italian-style deli with a focus on seafood, D Vento soon started serving ice cream and breakfast before rebranding to Da Vento Gourmet Deli & Grill. The next spring, the store seemed deserted. The DeMonte family took control in 2017 and made significant storefront upgrades.

Late in March of 2018, Santino’s came to life. The little store was a lifeline to the North Shore for goods as the pandemic’s food demands put a strain on supermarkets. In 2021, it was transferred to its most recent owner. Nothing is known about its upcoming version.

In other West Brighton news, Jean’s Fine Wines, located at 642 Forest Avenue, is undergoing a transition after going dark earlier this fall. According to its new owners, the location will not be a restaurant or a wine shop. According to them, their new idea should be prepared for announcement and launch in December.

At 420 Forest Avenue, the site of an illegal smoke shop, a new convenience store is set to open.Additionally, Wonder Restaurant, a dining hall that will contain at least six eateries under one roof, is scheduled to open in December at 800 Forest Avenue.
