New York’s Staten Island. When exactly do students in New York City’s public and Catholic schools return to campus after taking a break from attending courses and completing assignments over winter break?
This year, Catholic schools will have more time off during their Christmas break than public schools, and the two groups will return from winter break at separate times.
On Thursday, January 2, public schools are scheduled to resume classes. However, with pupils starting classes again on Monday, January 6, Catholic institutions are allowing them more time to recover and unwind.
Keep in mind that the Archdiocese of New York’s Catholic school calendar is a general, system-wide calendar. For any additional dates, make sure to consult the calendar of your particular institution.
Between the first and last day of courses, the municipal department of education’s public school schedule allows for about two dozen days off. The calendar provides time off for federal holidays, religious holidays, and week-long breaks for winter, mid-winter, and spring breaks.
With days off for mid-winter recess, spring break, and other federal and religious holidays until the last day of classes on Thursday, June 26, students will still have plenty of time off for the remainder of the school year after winter break.

There won’t be a mid-winter break for Catholic schools, but kids may anticipate Easter break in April, when classes are out from April 18 to 25. Catholic schools conclude classes on Friday, June 13 at the latest.
