When is mid-winter break for NYC public school students?

In February, public schoolchildren in New York City will get a week-long vacation during mid-winter recess.

From February 17–21, students will not be attending classes, including Presidents Day.

Friday, February 14 is the last day of public school classes before the start of the mid-winter break. On Monday, February 24, students will resume their classes.

This allows children to have nine days off from school, including weekends, during the break.

Between the first and last day of schools, the city DOE public school calendar allows for almost two dozen days off. The calendar provides time off for federal holidays, religious holidays, and week-long breaks for winter, mid-winter, and spring breaks.

For the remainder of the academic year, there is still vacation time scheduled. Students may look forward to the final weeklong break during spring recess, which runs from April 14–18, and the next day off is Monday, March 31.

Other federal and religious holidays are also observed by students until Thursday, June 26, the last day of classes.

The sole mid-winter break offered by Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York is on Monday, February 17, Presidents Day.

Beginning on Good Friday on April 18 and ending on Monday, April 28, Catholic schoolchildren will also have their next extended vacation for Easter recess in April. This implies that during their Easter vacation, Catholic schoolchildren will have ten days off.
