Who will hire Brian Daboll if Giants fire him? Intriguing landing spots include Patriots, NFC foe

Even though he refuses to acknowledge it, Giantscoach Brian Dabollis is probably giving his future a lot of thought this week.

That’s because his dismal 2023 and 2024 seasons in East Rutherford could leave him without a job come Monday. When asked on Friday if he had thought about the prospect that Sunday’s game against the Eagles would be his final one with the Giants, Daboll remained silent.

“Yes,” Daboll answered, “just concentrate on the things you can control.” We’ll concentrate on getting out here, finishing the week strong, and preparing to beat Philly.

Where might Daboll end up if John Maradoes does indeed move on from him?

There should be a lot of interest in him. Thanks to his role in the growth of quarterback Josh Allen, who may end up winning the league MVP award this season, the 49-year-old coach was a highly regarded offensive coordinator in Buffalo.

Let’s examine three teams that could sign Daboll if he becomes available this offseason, as his possible farewell song is just one day away.

The New England Patriots

The Patriots, who were once powerful, are now a dumpster fire. Although it’s not a given that they will fire coach Jerod Mayo after his first season, a move of some kind, such as firing offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, is undoubtedly on the horizon. Now for Daboll, who at the age of 24 started coaching in the NFL in New England. The chance to shape Drake Maye, who has been compared to Allen, could be just what Daboll needs to revive his career. Additionally, if he is successful in molding Maye and Mayo continues to perform poorly in Year 2, he might end up serving as New England’s interim coach in 2025.

The Chicago Bears

It was believed that Caleb Williams was a once-in-a-generation talent. He was seen by some scouts as Patrick Mahomes with superior college tape. At the NFL level, his performance has been subpar. Adding Daboll as their OC could help Williams’ growth get back on track (and boost his coaching resume), but the Bears definitely wouldn’t choose him as their head coach, especially with Detroit’s Ben Johnson hanging over them.

The Buffalo Bills

After all, it was successful the first time, right? This spring, head coaches will be interested in Joe Brady, the offensive coordinator for the Bills. Similar to Daboll, he has demonstrated success with Allen as his quarterback while serving as Joe Burrow’s pass-game coordinator in college. The main idea is that if Buffalo loses him, it could be logical to get back together with Daboll, who still gets along well with Allen.
