Woman, 64, killed in crash on Staten Island University Hospital grounds

New York’s Staten Island. According to an NYPD official, a pedestrian was murdered Wednesday morning after she was hit by an automobile on the premises of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

According to a representative for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, the 64-year-old woman was struck by a Volkswagen SUV at approximately 6:45 a.m. as she was making her way from the parking lot to the building at 242 Mason Ave.

The 67-year-old male struck the northbound pedestrian while driving a Volkswagen SUV southwest on the parking lot access road, according to the NYPD’s Highway District Collision inquiry Squad’s inquiry.

A representative for Staten Island University Hospital expressed the hospital’s profound sadness at the tragic incident that took place there today.

We are sending the family and our team members our deepest sympathies during this trying time. We are still dedicated to helping those impacted get through this tragedy. We are also completely assisting the police in their current investigation.

The woman who was slain was a hospital employee, according to a source who talked to Advance/SILive.com; the spokeswoman did not immediately confirm this.

An access road on the hospital grounds, which connects the parking lot to the main door of a campus building, was the site of the crash investigation on Wednesday morning.

The woman may have been trying to cross the access road at a painted crosswalk, based on items found in the aftermath of the fatal incident, including a single shoe. Around the investigation site, caution tape was seen.

According to the NYPD spokesperson, the pedestrian was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital North campus but was declared dead. The car’s driver stayed at the scene.
