Wordle Warriors: 2024 toughest puzzles across the U.S. revealed

With more than two million players, Wordle is a well-known interactive web browser game that was developed by Josh Wardle and is currently owned by the New York Times. The game’s goal is to answer the daily word problem, which consists of five letters.

Since October 2021, the daily word has been in circulation, changing every 24 hours. The daily word has become more difficult as people have joined at a rapid pace.

In 2024, 5.3 billion Wordle puzzles were played worldwide, according to Everdeen Mason, editorial director of New York Times Games.

The most difficult Wordle puzzles for each state in 2024 were identified by a recent study, per a Google analysis by unscramblerer.com.

According to this statistics, on April 21, JOLLY was the word to stump players in New York. Players all throughout the country were baffled by JOLLY, the second-hardest Wordle puzzle of 2024.

When faced with challenging puzzles, New Yorkers, like many Wordle players, resorted to online hints. In order to solve the puzzle, 15,380 people from New York participated in a Google search for wordle clue. Compared to Vermont, which topped the list with 31,387 for the word “OUTER” on May 12, this figure was in the middle percentile.

According to a representative for unscramblerer.com, players enjoy working out Wordle problems on their own. This is amply demonstrated by Wordle’s predilection for cheating. Americans who play Wordle are ten times more likely to look for Wordle Hints than Wordle Solver. Wordle Solver receives 100,000 monthly searches, whereas Wordle Hint receives one million. Receiving a tip when you’re stuck helps you figure out the word puzzle on your own, but nobody wants to end their winning streak.

On May 26, people in New Jersey struggled with the word BEVEL, while people in Pennsylvania, ironically, struggled with JOLLY.

“It was an online art project,” Wardle said in a 2022 interview with Time Magazine. However, I believe that considering the responsibilities involved in creating an environment for people to engage was incredibly helpful to me personally.

With more than 5.3 billion Wordles played in 2024, Wordle is clearly our generation’s cultural phenomenon.
