New York’s Staten Island. At the height of the holiday shopping season, employees are picketing outside the Amazon factory in Bloomfield on Thursday morning as part of a strike.
Workers are expected to demonstrate at locations around the United States as part of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union strike against Amazon, which started at 6 a.m. East Coast time, according to a union news release.
According to reports in the media, workers are also demonstrating at a factory in Queens.
The Teamsters have allegedly participated in unlawful attempts to unionize workers at Amazon’s sites.
The Teamsters have been purposefully misleading the public for over a year by claiming to speak for thousands of Amazon drivers and staff. stated Kelly Nantel, a representative at Amazon. They don’t, and this is just one more attempt to spread a myth.
In actuality, the Teamsters have engaged in unlawful threats, intimidation, and attempts to force third-party drivers and Amazon employees to join them. The union is currently facing numerous unfair labor practice charges related to this behavior.
According to the news release, the Teamsters, who represent around 10,000 Amazon employees, are calling for pay raises, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
According to the announcement, the statewide action comes after Amazon repeatedly disregarded the law and refused to negotiate with the thousands of Amazon employees who joined the Teamsters.
The union’s leader admitted that the work stoppage might cause delivery delays on holidays.
“You can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed if your package is delayed during the holidays,” stated Teamsters General President Sean M. O. Brien in the statement. We set a firm deadline for Amazon to attend the meeting and treat our members fairly. They disregarded it.
These avaricious executives have every opportunity to be decent and respectful of those who enable their heinous riches. Instead, they are now paying the price for pushing workers to the limit. It’s their fault.
The union was established in 1903 and now represents 1.3 million members in Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United States.
