WWE legend stops treatment for cancer and enters hospice care

Richard Harris, well known as Black Bart in the wrestling community, is currently receiving physical, emotional, and spiritual assistance while in hospice care after his treatment for Stage 4 colon/liver cancer was discontinued.

He claims he doesn’t want to put any more poison in his body, but he hasn’t given up.

Since 2022, Harris has been fighting the terrible illness.

Regretfully, the 76-year-old’s family posted the following message on Facebook.

The post said, “I’ll do my best to keep you fans informed, but right now is a time for family and friends.” He views his business brothers as family. I hope everyone else gets it. However, the close family comes first. As soon as the family is prepared to provide updates, the rest of you will be informed. But don’t believe that our affection for you has diminished. Bart is still hanging in there as of right now. We’re keeping him pain-free and comfortable. For now, that’s all I have to say. I adore you all so much!

During his storied professional wrestling career, Harris, a 6-foot-4, 350-pound native of Arkansas, won numerous titles.

Curiously, he has gone by a number of titles, including Hangman Ricky Harris, Man Mountain Harris, and Hangman Harris.

He started wrestling in 1975 and was best known in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) World as Black Bart from 1990 to 1991. He is currently retired.

Harris, who has diabetes, underwent heart bypass surgery in 2015.

“Bart was brought home today, he still isn’t able to walk but he isn’t making progress in the rehab so the insurance will not continue to pay for him,” the U.S. Sun reported in a December family statement. I have to support him when he tells me that he doesn’t want any more chemotherapy because he believes it’s doing more harm than good. He simply isn’t pouring any more poison into his body; he doesn’t feel like he has given up. He is now entirely in God’s control. God’s will will be carried out.
