A Dangerous Heat Wave Is Hitting Many Parts of the US, and Detroit Had Its Hottest Day in 20 Years.

A dangerous heat wave is gripping vast swathes of the United States, including the Midwest and Northeast. Detroit is experiencing its most severe temperatures in over two decades. The heat dome phenomenon has settled over numerous metropolitan areas, intensifying concerns for public health and safety.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), approximately 270 million people will be affected by the prolonged heat wave, which could persist for several days. Cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, and Washington, DC, are bracing for temperatures exceeding 90°F (32°C), with heat indices making it feel even hotter, reaching up to 110°F (43°C) in some places.

In response to the extreme conditions, Governor Kathy Hochul activated the National Guard to assist with heat-related emergencies, highlighting the severity of the situation. The heat wave poses significant risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, outdoor workers, and the homeless.
