Governor Greg Abbott of Texas criticized President Joe Biden, accusing him of treating immigrants as “political pawns” once they enter the United States.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Abbott discussed his recent visit to New York, where Mayor Eric Adams reported a significant influx of 157,000 immigrants between 2022 and 2023.
Abbott clarified that although he has transported immigrants from Texas to the sanctuary city, the number sent is relatively small compared to the total number arriving.
Abbott pointed fingers at President Biden, alleging that Biden’s open border policies are aimed at pleasing the far-left faction of the Democratic Party, including figures like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Abbott claimed that Biden’s policies are detrimental to the nation while trying to gain support from certain political groups.
New York has received more than 40,600 immigrants transported from Texas since August 2022. Meanwhile, Texas has been grappling with a significant influx of illegal immigration.
Local law enforcement in Texas has apprehended over 506,500 illegal immigrants since Operation Lone Star began in March 2021. Abbott credited his state’s policies for a 72% decrease in illegal immigration into Texas while highlighting the state’s economic growth and job creation.
