Abundant Job Opportunities Despite Unemployment Rise in Coastal Bend

In the Coastal Bend region of Texas, job seekers still have plenty of options, despite a slight increase in the unemployment rate. While the rate rose from 4.5% to 4.7%, it’s not a significant jump, but it’s worth noting.

According to Xena Mercado, the Communications Manager at Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend, nearly 12,000 people are either unemployed or actively seeking employment. However, there’s a silver lining as there are almost 13,000 job openings listed in the ‘Work in Texas’ database.

Many of these available positions are seasonal, particularly in tourism-driven areas, offering opportunities in hospitality and retail sectors. Additionally, jobs in healthcare and public service are also available for those seeking stable employment.

If you’ve found a job opportunity that interests you but lack some qualifications, Workforce Solutions can assist you in acquiring the necessary training for a new career path. They offer resources for upskilling and transitioning into different fields.

The construction industry remains one of the sectors with the highest demand for workers in the Coastal Bend area. Del Mar College offers a Construction Training Program that teaches fundamental skills for various trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, cabinet making, and electrical work.
