Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a transformative initiative featuring 21 ambitious projects designed to rejuvenate the Mid-Hudson region. This comprehensive plan is part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward programs, which aim to revitalize key areas, including Port Jervis, Sleepy Hollow, Cornwall, and Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A major highlight of this initiative is the substantial $10 million DRI award allocated to Port Jervis. This historic town is set to undergo a series of nine targeted projects aimed at creating a vibrant, multi-generational downtown. These projects will preserve the town’s historic charm while leveraging its scenic backdrop.

Key initiatives include the revitalization of Riverside Park, transforming it into a community hub with enhanced recreational facilities and scenic views. Additionally, there are plans to develop mixed-use residential and commercial spaces that will attract new businesses and residents, fostering economic growth and community engagement.

Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson are also set for significant transformations, having received a $4.5 million NY Forward award. Seven projects are planned for these areas, focusing on seamlessly blending cultural attractions with natural assets. One notable project is the renovation of the historic Storm King Theater, which will be transformed into a cultural center hosting a variety of community events.

Another innovative project is the creation of a pollinator connector trail, designed to promote biodiversity and provide educational opportunities about local ecosystems. These initiatives aim to foster inclusivity and community engagement, making Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson more attractive places to live and visit.

Sleepy Hollow, another recipient of the NY Forward award, is poised for enhancement through five distinct projects totaling $4.5 million. Among these projects is the transformation of the Strand Theatre into a community arts and culture center.

This new center will serve as a focal point for local artists and performers, providing a venue for a wide range of cultural activities. Additionally, the creation of a plaza and park at Morse School underscores a commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community space, where residents can gather for various events and activities.
