In the early hours of a Monday morning, amidst the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan, an unexpected altercation took place, leaving two MTA workers injured and a couple facing legal consequences.
As the clock approached 5 a.m., a 30-year-old track worker and a 39-year-old supervisor were enjoying a well-deserved food break outside the Plaza Gourmet Deli on 43rd St. and Ninth Ave.
Their peaceful meal took an alarming turn when they encountered a woman named Kaila Boncy, who was reportedly in need of assistance to charge her cellphone.
In a gesture of kindness, the MTA workers offered to help Boncy with her phone, unaware of the turmoil their innocent act of goodwill would soon incite.
Little did they know that this simple offer of assistance would be misinterpreted by Boncy’s boyfriend, Shane Jorge, who mistakenly believed that the workers were flirting with his girlfriend.
Thankfully, law enforcement authorities swiftly intervened, apprehending Jorge on charges of assault. However, the chaos did not end there, as Boncy allegedly attempted to interfere with the arrest, resulting in additional charges of resisting arrest and obstructing government administration.
In the aftermath of the altercation, both MTA workers were transported to Bellevue Hospital to receive medical attention for their minor injuries.
