In a recent address at the Greater Miami Expressway Agency, Governor Ron DeSantis reassured the people of Florida that the toll relief initiative he announced is not an April Fool’s prank. He emphasized that the state is committed to providing relief to commuters who rely on toll roads.
The announcement comes after extensive discussions among lawmakers regarding the state budget and a separate tax relief package. Following these deliberations, DeSantis’ office proposed reviving a toll-credit program that had previously offered discounts to motorists in 2023.
This program, estimated to cost approximately $450 million, will provide eligible drivers with 50 percent credits if they use SunPass or other Florida transponders and make 35 or more monthly toll-road trips.
Governor DeSantis assured residents that these toll credits will begin to appear on their May bills. Additionally, during his recent appearance, he announced significant progress on the $150 million Golden Glades highway project in Miami-Dade County.
This project, part of the broader Moving Florida Forward transportation initiative, received approval for bond sales from DeSantis and the state Cabinet.
Although Governor DeSantis acknowledged that the Golden Glades project won’t be completed immediately, he expressed confidence in the Moving Florida Forward initiative’s ability to expedite the construction process.
