Andrew Bain, currently serving as the Orlando area State Attorney appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis, has decided to run for election as an independent candidate. Originally filing as a Republican, Bain recently informed the Division of Elections of his decision to run without party affiliation.
By choosing to run as an independent candidate, Bain will advance directly to the General Election, where he will likely face the winner of the GOP Primary and Democratic candidate Monique Worrell.
Worrell, who won the election as State Attorney in 2020 but was suspended by DeSantis last year, is expected to be Bain’s main opponent.
Bain’s decision to run as an independent comes amidst a backdrop of political changes within the State Attorney’s office, with several incumbents being replaced by Republicans.
Despite being appointed by DeSantis and having received public recognition from him, Bain has opted to run independently, setting himself up for a potential challenge against a Republican nominee.

Running in a Democratic jurisdiction, Bain may face the challenge of splitting the Republican and Republican-leaning vote. The 9th Judicial Circuit, which includes Orange County and Osceola County, has a significant Democratic voter advantage, potentially influencing the outcome of the election.
