Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch its first tri-fold smartphone, possibly dubbed the Samsung G Fold, at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in July. The company first teased the concept during the January 2025 Unpacked showcase, and fresh leaks suggest it could launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Advanced Battery Tech on Board

According to X user PandaFlashPro, the tri-fold phone may utilize a silicon-carbon battery, a next-gen power solution that offers significant advantages over traditional lithium-ion cells. By replacing the graphite anode with silicon, these batteries allow for greater energy density, meaning more power in a smaller space.

While Honor was among the first to demonstrate silicon-carbon batteries in the Magic 5 Pro, Samsung now appears ready to bring the tech mainstream. However, the battery capacity in the tri-fold device is reportedly “under 5,000mAh,” suggesting a slim form factor—essential for a foldable device with multiple hinges.

Shared Hardware with Galaxy Z Fold 7

In a separate leak, PandaFlashPro claims the tri-fold model will share speaker drivers, hinge mechanics, and design cutouts with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It’s also tipped to feature a flat body design and support for 8K video recording at 30fps.

These similarities could mean the tri-fold phone will offer a familiar experience for users of Samsung’s existing foldable line—albeit with added screen real estate and complexity.

With a reveal expected in July, Samsung’s tri-fold phone could mark the next big leap in foldable tech, pairing cutting-edge battery innovation with a flexible design language already proven in the Z Fold series.
