Outages in Spain and Portugal stall customer service operations

YouTube’s customer support operations have been partially disrupted due to ongoing power outages affecting large parts of Spain and Portugal. The company confirmed that some members of its support team, particularly those offering assistance in regional languages, are currently offline.

In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), YouTube said it is working to support affected team members and will resume paused support cases as soon as possible. The company did not disclose how many employees are impacted or the number of support requests delayed.

The outages are part of a broader infrastructure disruption that is rippling across the Iberian Peninsula. Officials report interruptions to critical services, including transportation, healthcare, telecommunications, banking, and industrial operations. In Spain, the national grid operator warned that full restoration of power may take up to 10 hours.

The disruption underscores the vulnerability of digital services to real-world infrastructure failures — even for global tech platforms like YouTube.
